PCI 6289 >250kHz multi-channel sampling?

Solved!
Go to solution

I'm trying to sample around 250 kS/s using the PCI 6289.  Is this possible, or does an aggregate sampling rate of 500kHz listed on the 6289 spec. sheet means I'm limited to 500kHz/(N # of channels).  Currently I'm using four analog inputs and one analog output in my VI, and sample up to about 100kHz.

I can attach code upon request.

Thanks.

Hello Tom,

You are correct the aggregate sampling rate for PCI-6289 is 500KHz/(Number of Channels) you can have 250KHz but then you will be limited by two AI channels, Since there are 4 input channel the maximum you can sample is 125KHz/per channel.  If you want to sample each channel at 250KHz, we do have simultaneous smapling card PCI-6143 and it also has 8 AI channels

Thanks.  That is good to know.  Do you know if the PCI-6052E can handle 250kS/s on four channels?  It does say on the spec. sheet whether 333kS/s is aggregate or not.

Cheers.

Hello Tom

Even in PCI-6052E the sampling rate is aggregate. You may try to go little faster but it will eventually give you warning that ADC is overflowed and will reduce the precision of the input sample. Mostly E-series, M-Series and X-series are multiplexed DAQ board hence the sampling rate mentioned on their repective product pages are aggregate sampling rate. Only in the S-series board all input channel have their resp ADC hence the sampling rate mentioned is per individual channe.

Cheers

Just for clarification, there are several simulataneously sampled X Series boards in addition to the S Series boards (generally the top of the line X Series boards).
