The maximum voltage allowed at 6212 Analog Inputs

Hello, NI Community,

Intend to measure ±10 Volt at 6212's 15 Analog Inputs (ai's) simultaneously.

Overvoltage at 15 ai's is possible also simultaneously.

To protect the ai's, I would bridge them with Zener Overvoltage Transient Suppressors of the following performances:

  • no conduction: 0 to ±10 Volt;
  • significant conduction begins, but still voltage can increase further 12.3 Volt;
  • clamping voltage 17 Volt = full protection (35 Amperes through the bridge at this voltage).

But is 17 Volt is harmless for the 6212, if applied to all ai's simultaneously?

Tried to read NI's USB-6212 Specifications:

"Overvoltage protection for all analog input and sense channels when 6212 is OFF: ±20 V for up to two AI pins."

Why for only two ai's?

And what happens if ±17 Volt applied to all ai's?

Please help.

Thank you very much
