Two different thermocouple measurements 1303

Hello All,

 

I am using a SCXI-1303 module along with a SCXI-1102 and SCXI-1000 chassis. The plan is to measure temperature using type T thermocouples. The 1303 modules (i have 3 of them) are completely new, and I pulled them out of the box and put them on my 1102. I was testing my thermocouples to make sure they were all working when I noticed a temperature difference between some of the thermocouples. When I started using AI16 (0-15 were already in use) the temperature readings started to appear about 4 degrees below all the other temperatures. Most of the thermocouples read 21C, which is good, but the ones in channels AI16-19 (i didnt go any farther than 19), were reading about 16C. So I swapped thermocouples, placing one that had been reading the correct temperature (from AI15) into AI16 and it showed the same 4 degree offset, so it should not be a thermocouple problem. I put the 1303 on a different 1102 module, and I swapped 1303 modules, I had the same problem each time. The bias resistors came in the 1303 modules so I have not messed with them. I get the same temperature difference using "built-in" and "constant" for the CJC source. I find it hard to beleive that it is a hardware problem, both scxi-1303's and 1102's had the same result. So I was hoping there was something else here I am missing. I have searched the forums and not found anything quite like my problem. I am reading the manuals but have not come across anything that would explain this.

Well I feel stupid. When using the daq assistant you have to specify the thermocouple type for each channel. I had several of the channels sent to the wrong thermocouple type without realizing it. Changing them to the proper type, of course made them work.

Jim,

 

Not a needless post at all.  You saw a very real effect.  You tried several obvious troubleshooting techniques with unsatisfactory results.  You then found and fixed the real problem.

 

Key point: You posted your solution so that others could benefit.  And also let anyone monitoring the thread know that you had resolved the issue.
