USB-6008 is not recognized on laptop computer

Hi,
I installed the latest 8.3.1 drivers and connected my USB-6008 board by USB.
The device installed successfuly and appears in the Device Manager.
The computer is IBM T60 Notebook.

But it doesn't appear in Measurement & Automation at all and is not detected by the NI Device Monitor.

I made the same installation on another - not laptop computer and it worked just fine.

Please advise ...:mansad:

Hi Daniel,

Do you have administrator privileges on the computer? When the pop up from windows to install the driver comes up, we want to click “automatically” and let the NI drivers be associated with the hardware. Your post sounds like the device is being recognized in windows, but DAQmx is not being associated with this hardware.

In the device manager, does the 6008 show up under “Data Acquisition Devices” or as a device with a yellow exclamation point?  Are there any error or warnings when installing the device or finding the drivers? Is the light blinking, which indicates that the device has initialized?

Does the 6008 work if plugged into another USB port on the laptop? Please make sure you are restarting Measurement and Automation explorer (MAX) regularly to ensure that it refreshes the devices seen.

Typically in MAX, I see that USB devices will show up under USB and not DAQmx devices. Is the device not showing up at all, or just showing up under USB? Please look at KB 3NE7GJMY and let me know the results.

Hi David, thanks,

Yes, I'm logged in a s administrator on the computer.

When the popup appears - I let the driver to be installed automatically.

In the device manager, the 6008 appears under "Data Acquisition Devices" with NI logo on the left, no exclamations or question marks.

The green led on the device is blinking regularly after I plug the device into USB.

I tried the 3 USB ports of the IBM T60 and another 4 from the docking station. Same same.

I installed MAX on DELL INSPIRON - new computer and got the same behaviour !

I installed MAX on Lenovo computer and the device did show up in MAX very good.

I looked at the link you showed me: The USB driver selector appears grey in MAX but I went to and run

C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\HWConfig\nidusbs.exe

And got the window with driver selector and there appears USB-6008 with NI-DAQmx option only.

It's all very strange. I bought USB device in order to be able to simply switch it between computers. I need it to work on Laptop since I'm going to make experiments outside of the office.

Please advise.

Thanks

I had a similar problem with the 6008 appearing in device manager ok
but just would not show up in MAX. I ended up uninstalling DAXmx and
reinstalling and then it showed up.

I have seen similar issues with corrupt Measurement and Automation Explorer files or corrupt drivers. First, please follow KB 42HG08DD: MAX Database Corruption Error, solution 4. If this does not fix the problem, please download the latest (8.3.1) DAQmx driver from our website. (Product Line = Multifunction DAQ, Software = NI-DAQmx, Software Version = 8.3.1, O.S = the O.S. on your computer)

Please uninstall DAQmx, and then reinstall the downloaded driver. Also, please make sure that your USB-6008 is not connected to the computer at any point while doing the uninstall and reinstall.

 Hi,

Thnaks for help. I reinstalled MAX and drivers several times (8.3.1) Still didn't work.

Then I got new T60 and it worked there. Then I installed ZoneAlarm firewall from Checkpoint and the 6008 didn't recognize.

The strange thing is that even after I kill the ZoneAlarm process the 6008 is still not recognized.

Only after I uninstalled the ZoneAlarm the 6008 was recognized again.

So ZoneAlarm was the problem. If you have any ideas how to make it work with ZoneAlarm, please let me know.

Thanks.
