USB6009 Device Not Recognized by Measurement & Automation

I have just upgraded a Win2k based runtime system to RunTimeEngine 9.0 and to DaqMx 8.5.  When I plug in my USB 6009 device, it gets registered by Windows as I can see it listed as DataAcquistion Devices/USB-6009OEM2 listed in the System Device Manager,   but I cannot see it in the Measurement & Automation.   How do I force MAX to recognize and assign it?   I have tried all tactics such as refresh, uninstalling and updating the drive, but to no success.  I had no problems with this before I upgraded, and I am pretty sure I am not using NI-DAQmx Base.   Is this another registry problem?

Hi Steve,

Good afternoon and I hope your well today. Thanks for the post.

DAQmx 8.5 is supported by win2k and supports the usb6009, good start. I would confirm that DAQmx (and not DAQmx Base) is installed on the machine - you can do to add/remove programs>>NI or in MAX under Software.

Secondly, were you using the 6009 with DAQmx Base previously? If so you need to update the Firmware when you switch between NI-DAQmx and NI-DAQmx Base. The following knowledgebase article gives you details on how to do this,

Using a USB-6008 / 6009 / 6501 in MAX, and Switching Firmware Between NI-DAQmx and NI-DAQmx Base

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/1448A8AC665EE0EA8625703F004A4410?OpenDocument

Thirdly, (after the above step), I would check windows device manager and make sure you have no errors with the usb6009 ( a yellow ! appears from an error). If so, select find drive.. or when you plug in the device - Windows Found New Hardware - allow it to assign DAQmx to the device. Do you have an error?

I'd say that was about it - except when you plug the device in does it appear in windows device manager - but you've already confirmed this.

Please let me know how you get on, I hope my suggestions find you well.

Edit: If your not sure if you've installed DAQmx Base - please check this.

Also if your not sure if you last used the device with Base I would update the firmwire to DAQmx if you wish to use the DAQmx driver.

Replacing DAQmx8.5 with DAQmx8.9 improved things a lot.  But it took a never before used USB6009 module inserted to the system to 'wake' the activity of the Measurement & Automation Program toward recognition of USB devices, or else it would have looked like nothing improved.   Maybe someone can explain this?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the update and the reply. I hope your well today.

I am a little confused by your wording, so before where you pluggin the device while the machine was on OR rebooting with it connected.. MAX has to be refreshed to update the devices... did you ever/do you always see the windows found new hardware message? when you plug-in your usb6009?

Kind Regards
