Using NI 9201 without Chassis

Hello, I'm designing my first Data Acquisition System and I've got a question about chassis.

I have found the DAQ that I need for characteristics, the NI 9201. Now, the site says that I need a Chassis to connect it to the PC.

I want to understand if I can connect it to the PC directly with a D-SUB connector (which I can see on the back of the NI9201), without chassis, or if the Chassis is indispensable for the correct functioning of the system.

Thank you

You need an actual chassis.  They are not using RS-232 on that connector.  If you are dealing with just this one module (and only using one module), then just get a cDAQ-9171 as well.  It will allow you to control any C series module via USB.
