Using USB-9219 to interface pyrometer with PC.

Solved!

Hi there.

I am looking for a suitable USB module to read temperature from an optical pyrometer and display it on PC.Whether USB-9219 can be used to interface an optical pyrometer with PC to read temperature reading? If not, please suggest suitable module.I want to use the same for displaying pressure, measured from a sensor which gives voltage signal.

Hi Arihant,

My name is Jack and I'm a Applications Engineer at National Instruments UK.

If your Pyrometer outputs its reading as a voltage, resistance or current then the USB-9219 you mention will be able to read it in. With four channels the USB-9219 will also be able to read in the voltage level from the pressure sensor you mentioned.

The best thing for you to do might be to call our technical sales department and discuss what module will best meet your needs.

The number is: 01635 523545

Just ask for Technical Sales

Hope this is of help

Thanks for the suggestion Jack.

I wanted to add that the pyrometer is capable of RS232 interface. Please see the attached file and comment regarding use of USB 9219 with it.

Thanks & regards.

I'm afraid you wont be able to use the 9219 module for reading from a RS232 interface. The link below shows the 9870 module that can communicate with a RS232 device.

4-Port, RS232 Serial Interface Module for CompactRIO https://www.ni.com/en-us/shop/model/ni-9870.html

Using both the 9219 and the 9870 modules you will be able to gather the information you require. For a more compact solution, rather than using two single module USB holders have a look at the link below

NI CompactDAQ 4-Slot USB Chassis https://www.ni.com/en-us/shop/model/cdaq-9174.html

The CompactDAQ chassis come in 1, 4 and 8 slot models and can hold any of our C-Series modules like the 9219 and the 9870. You could use either the 4 or 8 slot models both allowing for further expansion should you need it.

Hope this helps

The pyrometer also has a 0-1 Volt and 0-20 mAmp output signals, so you could use a voltage or current analog input device.

The 0-20mA current could also be converted to a voltage by putting a resistor across the ouput signal.

Thanks for the suggestion jack.

However I have a confusion regarding the interface you suggested and the one mentioned in the link https://www.ni.com/en-us/shop/model/usb-232-4.html.

How are these two different? Can I use this one to serve my purpose??

Please reply.

Thanks.

Arihant
