Where can I get a 68pin VHDCI cable connector to make my own custom cable?

I want to make my own cable for a M-series board. I only need a few signals from each of the two 68pin VHDCI outputs. It seems to be overkill to use the fully equipped SHC68-68-EPM cable in this particular case. Where can I get 68pin VHDCI cable connectors to make my own downsized cable?

Hi,

I think these 68pin connectors are normal SCSI-high density connectors. In Germany you can get them from Buerklin.com, # 52F4020 and 52F4040.

Finding the connector is easy. You can buy them at DigiKey or Mouser Electronics. Finding the ribbion cable is a lot more difficult. If you find some please post the location. I did the same thing to make a custom cable for my PDA application. Good Luck.

I would take a open female-female SCSI connector (PC slot adapter intern/extern for about 10$) and solder the cables direct to the open connector
(Bürklin 13M3822)

the pressing and soldering of the thin cables is a little bit difficult

or take a cable from E*bay

Hi,
I have a pci-6229 DAQ board ; and I also have the interconnector and the SH68-68-EPM cable which are its accesories. But I want the cable to be longer than that provided by NI. NI does not have them, hence I am planning to order it custom made. Can anyone tell me if there is any problem of signal loss if I get an extension of around 10m ? In that case, what is maximum limit that the cable can be extended to? I am asking this mainly since it is a SCSI 3 kind of connectors, and that NI does not supply a cable longer than 2m!
Thanks

Hi Pannag,

If your signals are big enough, I think it would work. Small signals may have troble due to losses. But since you are using SCXI, your signals will be amplified before going through the DAQ cable.

I think it may work for the following reason. Using SCXI, you can daisy chain up to 8 chassies. Using 2m cables, the last SCXI chassis in the daisy chain will be going through 16 meters of cable plus the connectors on the other 7 chassies. If this will work then I'm sure that a 10 meter cable could work too.
