XP embedded support for cDAQ-9174

Hi, please could someone out there help me!!

I have a TPC-2512 with XP embedded. The spec says it supports compactDAQ, but when I plug in my cDAQ-9174, it won't recognize it. I think DAQ 8.7 was installed on the TPC-2512, so I tried installing the compact version of 9.2.2. It still wouldn't recognize my cDAQ-9174 and after an (apparently) successful installation of 9.2.2, it started asking for niede.sys and nicsrkw.sys.

I guess the short version of what I am asking is if the TPC-2512 will support the cDAQ-9174, and what version of NI DAQ will I need?

I need help on this urgently otherwise I am going to have a pretty unhappy customer.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!!

DWproj,

Are you simply trying to run an executable file on the TPC module, or are you trying to program and develop on it as well with the DAQmx drivers? Have you been able to use any devices with the DAQ run time engine or any other executable files? Is this a full install of the drivers you are trying to do?  Have you been able to use the LabVIEW Touch Panel module with this respect?

Two things I would like to try in this respect are to A. Try to run an executable file on the touch panel to see if it can access the DAQ resources, and B. Test the cDAQ system with a different computer to ensure that it is being recognized and is itself working. Thanks.

Hi Timothy,

Thanks for the suggestions (apologies for the late reply). What I ended up doing, due to extreme time constaints was to install NI Daq 8.7.1 and use a cDAQ-9172, that worked ok.

What I found  with the 9174, was that the Touch panel itself would not even see the device (system/hardware/device manager), no matter which version of driver I tried to use.

I did get the 9174 and the executable to run fine off my desktop.

DW,

I'm glad to hear that you got your applications up and running in some fashion (that is the most important consideration from my end). From what I can tell, the 9174 should be usable with the touchpanel as described above, so it would take some more troubleshooting to get to the root cause of that. Thank you for letting me know about where you are with your project as well.

Hi Timothy,

Thanks, I found this interesting post, I am wondering if it has any relevance to my problem with the driver verson for the 9174?

That seems possible, what driver are you currently trying to use on XP embedded?

When I initially plugged the 9174 into the TPC-2512 it didn't see it. I assumed it was a driver problem because I found out that the 9174 was only supported after NI DAQ 9.0.1 (or something like that) and the version on the TPC was 8.7. I loaded up the stripped down version of 9.2.2, which seemed to install OK, but then started coming up with errors like niede.sys missing etc.

Forum searches for the errors lead me to the post mentioned previously, so due to time constraints I loaded up 8.7.1 and used a compactDAQ 9172 and got going from there. I may have misinterpreted that post a bit but I just ran out of time to work on the 9174 issue any longer.

To my knowledge, DAQmx 8.7.1 is the only version for which we've explicitly released XP Embedded support for, although it does seem that people have had some degree of success with newer versions.

Most troubles people have been having seem to be related to the NI Ethernet Device Enumerator (niede.sys); this is a component that was added in DAQmx 9.2 to support the cDAQ-9188 ethernet device. Unfortunately this component needs to be present and working for all cDAQ chassis (even USB ones) in 9.2 or later, which is why you're running into problems.

You may have success using DAQmx 9.0.1 (which added support for the cDAQ-9174 and 9178) through 9.1.x (with the appropriate patch), but note that using those versions on XP Embedded is not officially supported.
