cDAQ-9172 on a Mac

I have a cDAQ-9172 that I use a NI 9211 thermocouple module with to make temperature measurements. I always run this on a Windows machine at work, but this weekend, I've taken home the hardware and want to run/test it on the Mac version that I have on my home computer.

From what I can tell, this 9172 will not work on a Mac system. Is this really true?!? Is there any way I can get it to work?

I think this should have been answered already, but I can't find anything in my searches (this forum, Google or otherwise) on this question.

According to this document the cDAQ-9172 is indeed not supported by Mac.

As JB pointed out, yes, the cDAQ-9172 is not supported with DAQmx Base. However, one option is to use virtualization software like VMware Fusion or Parallels to run Windows as a guest OS with DAQmx.

Just to clarify, this document is incorrect.  NI does not support virtualization for DAQ hardware.  We have found from internal testing that virtualization does not offer the necessary performance requirements.  We have found this to be true for XP Mode on Windows 7, Parallels, and VMWare.

At this time, it is not currently possible to reliably use a CompactDAQ chassis on a Mac.

Thanks for the help, guys. I thought someone might have a clever workaround.

Makes me wonder why NI bothers to make a Mac version of Labview, if it doesn't even support a compact DAQ.

It's possible that it may work for your application.  We've seen a couple people get VMWare working with a compact DAQ, but it's very touchy with regards to USB transfer speeds and such.  If you have the hardware already, it would likely be worth a test, but we unfortunately can guarantee this.

The above message should read "unfortunately can't guarantee.  Apologies for the typo, I need more coffee...
