cDAQ module compatibility

I have a NI cDAQ-9189 chassis with a NI-9996 module in slot 1, NI-9403 in slot 2, NI-9228 in slot 3, and a NI-9870 in slot 4. NI-Max says there is a compatibility issue with the slot 4 module. Looking on-line it seems the NI-9870 RS232 module is not compatible with cDAQ but it is with cRIO. Is this true? To make things worse, I don't see any RS232 modules for the cDAQ chassis. I need to have at least 4 RS232 ports. Is there a 4 port RS2323 module for the cDAQ? Is there one that has the pinout as the NI-9870?

Thanks,

Greg

Yes, that is true.  cDAQ only works with modules that can be controlled with DAQmx.  RS-232 is not in that realm.  If USB is allowed, I would use a ICUSB2324I from StarTech.  It is a 4 port RS-232 hub.  I have used it quite a bit in the last couple of years with little to no issues.

You might try the cDAQ ethernet port connected to a 4 Port RS-232 gateway.
