installing Elvis traditional 3.05 on Windows 7 64 bit with Labview 2010

I got this working with Labview 2009 but recently renewed my license and upgraded to 2010.  I performed a clean install of everything (I have actually done this 3 or 4 times).  The method was outlined in a document sent to me by a tech the first time I had issues installing.  The process is briefly:

1.) Remove DAQ from computer

2.) Unistall all Labview and other Labview software.

3.) Delete folders left behind.

4.0 Delete a couple of registry keys.

5.) Reinstall the software - don't install any drivers. Restart after every package is installed.

6.) Install NIDAQ9.2.2 driver software - restart

7.) Install hardware

8.) Install NI Elvis Traditional as a admin......

This is where I hit a brick wall.  It tells me that it needs the full developerr version of Labivew 8.5 or greater installed on my computer and installation exits.  I have Labview 2010 installed, licensed, and it works great.

Windows 7 - 64bit

NI M Series PCI6251

Labview 2010

NI Elvis

Everything else will install great, just the Elvis software gives me problems.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi Max,

Sorry to hear the installer is giving you so much trouble. If you look at NI License Manager (Start » All Programs » National Instruments) under labVIEW 2010 and you expand Development System, where do you see green boxes? Could you also upload a screenshot of the error the installer gives you? I'll look into this and get back to you.

Thanks,

Sean

Hi Max,

Thanks for uploading those screenshots. I think I've identified the problem. When NI software has been activated, a green box will appear next to the software in NI License Manager. If you look at your License Manager you'll see this is not the case. Since it looks like you have the student edition, you should right click on Student Edition under Development System and then click Activate. If you have an internet connection on the computer you're installing labVIEW, I would recommend the automatic activation. Just enter your serial number and you should be good to go. Let me know if you run into any more trouble.

I tried that but we are not given a serial number - only told to drag and drop the license file for a email we receive to the license manager.

Hi Max,

This is interesting? Where did you receive the license file? Did you get your LabVIEW 2009 serial number from the same place? Let me know and I'll look into this for you. Hopefully we can get this resolved quickly.

Hi

No luck with performing the labview installation and not installing the license file (leaving in eval mode) prior to installing Elvis traditional 3.05

Try the installation on my laptop.......although not really seeing much benefit as my laptop OS is Windows 7 32b and the file structure is way different.

That brings me to my next suspiscion: my folder structure on my desktop is somewhat unusual.  My documents, photos, data files, videos....are all on a data drive.  I don't wipe this drive when doing a fresh install.  Although my primary user file along with my application data and program data are still on my primary C:\ hard-drive.  I read on some website that a guy was having a similar issue and it was due his environmental variable for app data or program data (can't  remember which)pointing to the wrong location.  I checked all my environmental variables in windows and they all seem to be pointing to the correct locations.  I guess I could be missing one???

Hi Max,

I don't think the problem is your file structure since LabVIEW installs in C:\Program Files\National Instruments, especially since you say this worked with LabVIEW 2009. Where did you get your license file? Was it from your university? If so, which one? Did you get your 2009 license from the same place? When you had LabVIEW 2009 installed, did it show up as activated in the NI License Manager (a green box should show up next to Development System under LabVIEW 2009)? If this is the case, you might be trying to activate LabVIEW 2010 with a 2009 license. Make sure this is not the case.

Best wishes,
