ni 6221 analog output error

hello all,

I have a PCI-6221 (on windows XP with LV 8.6.1) and when the labview driver installs itself, the analog output imediatly goes to 0.5V.

If I uninstall the daq from windows the analog output goes to zero.

I can see the daq on MAX and can test, reset, test panels, etc. The examples from LV do not return any error but the daq continously measures 10V and outputs 0.5V.

I know the daq is ok because I installed it in another PC and it worked. On this particular PC I have reinstalled windows and LV 8.6.1 and still the same error (I also checked the PCI slot). I went to BIOS and changed a few parameters there but still nothing.

can anybody think why this is happening?

thanks,

Adao

Hi Adao,

So If I understand correctly: the board is recognized by Windows and by MAX, but a read on the AI (via MAX test pannels and with a known voltage applied to the board) always read 10V and the outputs always output 0,5V (event when selecting another value in MAX test panels).
The same board works correctly on another PC, so the board is not out of order.

Can you try the board on another PCI slot of your PC? Do you have the same behaviour?
Can you try uninstalling DAQmx (via add/remove software) and then re-install the last version of DAQmx (9.2)?
If the problem remains, you can also try to remove all NI Softwares from your PC with the utility provided here and then re-install LV, and then DAQmx.
If none of this solve the issue, the problem might be related to an hardware problem on the PC. Maybe you can try another PCI board on the PC to see if it works.

Prior to removing all software, how are you measuring the voltage at the analog output?  Additionally, does the output stay constant at 0.5V?

I'm measuring using a multimeter.

the output of the PCI 6221 goes to 0.5V as soon as the windows drivers is loaded. If I go to device manager and uninstall the driver it goes back to 0V.

I would like to know if this daq needs 3.3V in the PCI bus.

thank you,

Adao

This board has the following power requirements to function correctly:

22917iEE2894046EB12926

All of those bus rails are required.

No 3.3V required from the PCI bus, according to note (4) at the bottom of page 10 in the specs linked below:

That only applies on the version of the NI 6221 with the 37 pin connector.  The version with the default 68-pin VHDCI connector does use the 3.3V line.

We checked the PCI bus and the 12V were missing.

It's now working properly.

Thanks to all for the help.

Seth:

Thanks for clarifying my erroneous conclusion regarding the 3.3V.
