updateNIDrivers failed with opensuse 10.3

Hi,

updateNIDrivers fails in opensuse 10.3 with kernel version 2.6.27.7. I have the corresponding kernel-source and kernel-syms packages installed. I also have the linux-kernel-headers installed (stock 2.6.22 version though). The installation following the README for opensuse fails and when trying updateNIDrivers it fails again. Attached is the installation log. What can I be doing wrong? I'd appreciate any help. Many thanks in advance!

I apologize but I forgot to mention that I installed nikal 1.10 as suggested in the forums to no avail unfortunately. Same error

update:

I uninstalled kernel-source and kernel-syms corresponding to version 2.6.27 and installed version 2.6.25. I recompiled the kernel using the default configuration from kernel 2.6.22 (stock).

the INSTALL script fails as before -following carefully the instructions for suse in the readme file- Then I tried to install nikal 1.10 and it also fails with the same error (as before using kernel 2.6.27) this sugest that is not a kernel version issue (?). It could be some kernel config setting (?). I think it is not the case since I used the default config for opensuse 10.3... Please, any help is very much appreciated.

p.s. the reason I cannot use the standard opensuse 10.3 kernel (version 2.6.22) is that the included network driver (forcedeth) doesn't work for my hardware.

repepo,

After looking over what you are doing, it appears as though you have a good idea as to why this is not working. When using a different kernel than the standard OpenSuse kernel it can lead the way to problems such as these. Generally items such as these are not supported, but I would like to point you to a better resource where you might get some help. We have a Linux User Community and our Linux developers as well as many of our Linux Users monitor and post here. If you post this question here you will get a better answer than "not supported". I apologize for not being able to help more, but that community is really your best option for Linux questions such as these. Thanks!
