0603 - wrong package placed

When placing an 0603 SMT capacitor in Multisim and then forward annotating it to Ultiboard (both Version 10), I get a CAPMP7360X360N footprint for the part. This is obviously incorrect. Any reason why this is? Is there a way to fix this so it will place the correct 0603 package? Resistors work fine. It's just SMT capacitors that cause a problem.

Thanks.

By any chance are you selecting package "Chip-C0603" ?
That is the one that is mapped to the footprint CAPMP7360X360N.

If you are selecting a footprint from Multisim, try:
1. Manufacturer: Generic    Footprint: 0603
2. Manufacturer: Ultiboard   Footprint: C0603

Those two give you a 0603 SMT footprint.

The way you can tell what a footprint is mapped to, from the Select a Footprint dialog when you are choosing a footprint you can see the first column is NO, then Manufacturer, then Footprint, and so on... scroll right to where you see colum Ultiboard Footprint, if there is something in that cell that means is mapped.

Hi Nestor,

Thanks for the reply. I am using the IPC-7351/CHIP-C0603 package right from the list to the right when I select a capacitor from the values pick list. I don't find the Generic package on the package list to select. Looks like I'm selecting something incorrectly. Any suggestions?

Regards,

Ed

Ok, that's what I thought was happening.

You can use the spreadsheet view to correct all the footprints. Look for your component, then scroll right to the column where the footprint is listed, and left-click the cell so the 'Select a Footprint' dialog pops-up. Click Select from Database and choose the 0603 footprint.... or the C0603.

If you have more than one component to change... on the spreadsheet view, select all the components you wish to change at once... use the CTRL or SHIFT keys to help you out... once all of them are selected... then click the cell (on any row) that holds the footprint information, and repeat the above procedure... when you are done, all of them will change.

I will check with R&D if that mapping is correct or not... (the IPC mapping) from what I'm seeing right now it seems it may not be right... the footprint box where you selected that footprint displays only the IPC footprints on the database, not all the footprints available.. but you can set the footprint from the spreadsheet later.
