For a lot of components there are very realistic 3D available (e.g. in STEP or IGES format) either from the supplier or from dedicated libraries.
Nowadays most PCB design tools are capable of importing these models to generate realistic 3D PCB assemblies that can be exported to mechanical design packages.
The lack of a 3D model import capability in an expensive CAD Tool like Ultiboard is a real shortcoming in my opinion.
Are there any plans to include 3D model import capabilities in Ultiboard.
