Bridge Rectifier Power Consumption

Hello,

I am having trouble with multisim when it comes to power consumption involving AC power sources and bridge rectifiers. Even with a simple load the power source is supplying kilovolts to the circuit which should not be drawing so much power. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on here. Thanks. Attatched is the circuit in question with nodal some nodal voltages.

Well, the simulation is trying to tell you something. If you physically build this circuit and use those diodes, chances are that they would burn up.

Check the maximum voltage ratings on this diode. It is not rated for the 120VAC application you are using it in.

Thank you for the response. So I changed the diodes to 1N4007G which can handle up to 1000V which did seem to solve the kA issue however the power consumed by just the bridge recitfier is around 9 Watts which still seems high. Is that value correct or does multisim amplify the power consumed by diodes. My calculations have the power consumed by the bridge rectigier at a half a watt not 9.

I do not know how you are doing your calculation. This is actually not a trivial excercise for this circuit because the bridge experiences in-rushes of current when it passes current to charge the capacitors. The waveform is far from sinusoidal. You would need to analyze and perform some analsis on waveforms.
