Forums Maintenance - January 15, 2008

Hello Everyone,

In my discussions with Lithium (our forum vendor) regarding performance, they have suggested some maintenance on the forums that could help with our community's performance.

The maintenance is to "trim" floated threads and boards (not subscriptions) for all users in the community.  This means that if you floated a thread more than 3 months ago, we would remove the float for you.  In long-standing communities like ours, users can build up many floats that can affect the performance of the entire community.

In order to keep the floats that are important to you, you just need to unfloat:

and re-float the thread because they will then be newer than 3 months:

I must stress that there is no guarantee that this will have a noticeable benefit for performance, but Lithium has recommended that we try this because it has helped other communities in the past.

This maintenance will be performed on January 15, 2008.

Please post any questions or concerns you have to the thread on the feedback board.

Regards,
Laura

Hi Laura,

Forgive me if I haven't been paying attention to these threads (I kinda stay busy in the Multisim/Ultiboard forum and rarely go anywhere else). Apparently I have missed something. I noticed now that there is an "ADD TAG" button on the bottom of the post window. Could you refer me to a thread that explains what this is and how it is to be used?

Thank you very much.

Hi Lacy:

I think Laura's post was generic, and she isn't replying to individual posts.

You can find more information about tags on the help page

Hi lacy,

Sorry that I missed your reply, I had made a bunch of posts and misplaced my subscription emails  🙂

On the feedback board, I posted about turning on tagging here.  First, it was for Forum Enthusiasts and NI Employees.  After we got some traction, I turned it on for all Active users (200 posts and more) which includes you.

There is also another long thread with much user discussion about tagging here.  It's long, but you can see some of my posts about the benefit of tagging by looking at the messages I've tagged with "tagging".

Thanks,
Laura

Thanks for your reply Laura. I understand it now. I had never used this anywhere before as I am aware of. I read the messages about it and I like it. The thing that to me is the best is the fact that tags will be searched when someone does a forum search. This will make it easier for users to find a tagged procedure for Multsim/Ultiboard instead of having to re-post the same information again. I notice that sometimes the forum search failed to find a post just because your keywords didn't match up to the thread even though it may be what your looking for.. This may eliminate that.

Thanks, this will make a great addition to the forums.
