Manufacturer Part number in User fields linked together

I have a schematic design that I'm trying to add in part numbers and vendors in the user field but when I change the part number for one component, it changes the same field in all of the custom components I created. Capacitors, ICs, transformers, connectors, doesn't matter, they all change. Why?

Hi,

If you select Tools>>Database>>Database Manager>>Users Field Titles, this area is a global setting, if you change something in here every component will change.

If you double click on a component that was placed on the work area and then select the "User" field tab, when you add information under the "Value" column, it applies only to that specific component.  If you want to permanatly add custom information to a component and save it your database, double click the component>>Edit Component in db>>User Field, once you add the custom information, click OK to save to component

If the above information doesn't apply to you, please tell me the steps you went through that caused all components to change.

I double click on the part, chose the user tab, enter a part number into the "Manufacturer Part Number" field, and it changes on every part I made in the design. Parts from the master database do not change.

Hi,

I was mistaken about the "user field" behaviour.  It looks like you are right, when you change the User field information, other instances of that component also changed on the work area, I also looked at that component in the User database and it too changed.

You have to databases where you can save components to, the User and Corporate database.  As a work-around, save the component to the unused database, you should be able to have different User field information for the same component.

No, you don't understand. When I change a user field on any component, it changes in ALL user components in the schematic. IC's, Capacitors, Inductors, etc. It doesn't matter, they ALL change. The only parts that do not change are the ones that come from the master database. This did not happen in version 10 of Multisim, I'm only seeing it in version 11.

This is a strange problem, is it OK if you send us your User database and the schematic you are working with, l like to investigate this issue.  Don't post the files here, go to:  http://www.ni.com/support/, create service request and you can email us the files.

In case you don't know where your User database file is located, in Multisim select the menu Options>>Global Preferences>>Path to find out.

You need an active subscription to use a support request. Mine has expired.
