Multisim scroll buttons don't work

Solved!

MS 11.0.2(11.0.775) 17 May 2011

Vista 64 Home Premium

Hi, I'm new to the forum and to Multisim, so forgive me if this problem has been answered before (search yielded no results).

The normal Windows horizontal and vertical scroll bars are missing.

In the lower right corner of the screen, just below the working window, are two buttons with left and right arrows. Tool Tips labels these "Left Scroll" and "Right Scroll."

When I click on these buttons they display "depressed" but nothing happens. This is true if I zoom in to a small portion of the schematic.

How do I get these buttons to work?

I find not having the horizontal and vertical scroll bars extremely inconvenient, and rather peculiar for a Windows CAD program. I am familiar with several other schematic capture/PCB layout programs (plus several CAD programs) and this is the only program I have seen that doesn't have scroll bars. Is there a way to turn them on?

Right now if I want to move the view horizontally to another part of the schematic I have to "Zoom Fit To Page" and then "Zoom to selected area." This is extremely inconvenient.

Here is a follow up.

I have no scroll bars and the scroll buttons don't work when I open existing files prepared a few years ago by someone else.

When I follow the tutotial in the "Getting Started" PDF the scroll bars are there and function correctly.

I wonder if the problem with the older files has something to do with program versions?

Hi Phil,

Make sure that you zoom in the schematic, the scroll bars will automatically appear.

Zooming in does not cause the scroll bars to appear with the old drawing files unless I toggle the Full Screen display. In Full Screen mode the scroll bars are visible, but I can't work in Full Screen mode.

When in the ordinary display I see no scroll bars.

Another odd thing is that I cannot see the bottom of the drawing sheet, even if I use "Zoom to fit to page." When I do this the entire width of the sheet becomes visible, but the bottom is off screen.

If I use the mouse wheel to scroll out I can see the entire sheet, but "Zoom to fit to page" pushes the bottom off screen again.

My guess is that there are supposed to be scroll bars when I zoom in, but for some reason they are out of the working window at the right and bottom.

Note: All other features of the Multisim workspace are visible. I see the multiple sheet tabs below the working window and the normal "Minimize,", "Restore Down" and "Close" buttons are visible at the top right. MInimizing and then maximizing the Multisim window doesn't restore the scroll bars.

These problem appear only when working on these older designs. The scroll bars do appear if I start a newer design. Unfortunately, the only reason we bought the NI Circuit Design Suite was to work on this existing design for a customer. I have to use their existing drawings, so being unable to scroll is a real problem.

One other odd thing. If I use the mouse wheel to scroll out, and then move the cursor to the lower right corner of the sheet and use the wheel to scroll in again, the lower right corner and the cursor move off screen to the lower right.

Phil,

Could you please attach one of your old designs? I'd like to try to reproduce the problem on my computer. What version was used to create those old files?

Fernando,

I think I have attached the full test design. It should have eight sheets.

The original is a customer's proprietary design, so I am not at liberty to release it. I deleted everything but a few objects from every page, and removed the customers name from the title box. If there is still anything that reveals the customer's name or design information please remove the file from the forum.

On all eight sheets I see the same three problems:

1. "Zoom to fit page" does not include the bottom edge of the sheet in the working window.

2. If I scroll out with the mouse wheel, move the cursor to the bottom right corner, and scroll in, the cursor and the bottom of the design move off the bottom of the screen.

3. If I use "Zoom to selected area" to zoom in on a component there is no horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the window.

I hope this helps. I am a beta tester for a mechanical CAD program and I understand the value of a sample file that exhibits a problem.

I do not know what version of Multisim the customer used to generate the files. The files were dated 2010.

For what it is worth, I have an archive with the oldest files dated in mid 2009. When I open these everything works correctly and I do not see the three problems listed above. The last three revisions all exhibit all three problems.

Hi Phil,

Thanks a lot for the file, I was able to see the behavior. Basically when you open the design the size of each sheet is larger than the workspace area, that's why you can't see the scroll bars. Drag and drop one of the title bars (for instance: Test#1) to the left side and, at some point you should be able to see the control buttons and the scroll bars (zoom in to display the scroll bars)

To fit the page to the workspace area double-click on the title bar of one of the sheets, try zooming in and out with the mouse wheel, you will see the scroll bars.

Please let me know how this works.

Fernando,

That did the trick! I now have scroll bars on all pages when I zoom in to view a small part of a page.

Thanks!

I have been working through the tutorials and the program seems to be pretty easy to use. I have been designing PC boards for 30+ years, so I know what I want to do. Every time I use a new program the problem is figuring out how to get the program to do what I want to do. So far Multisim and Ultiboard have been pretty easy to adapt to.
