Multisim virtual components --> Ultiboard = :-(

When i use 3PDT or DPDT switches in my multisim schematic and try to then forward annotate to ultiboard, since these componenets are virtual,
they are not placed in the ultiboard schematic. They are very important with important connections, however, and i would like some version of them
or their conenctions placed on the board (even if its just holes and traces so i can solder wires to the holes and connect the other end to the switch).
How can I do this? Same goes for DC sources and AC sources. Even if its just a hole with a trace to the rest of the circuit that i can solder a wire to
and connect up my battery. How can i get these components to model in Ultiboard?

What version do you have? Is it the Power Pro Edition?

There is a way to do this but I only know how to do it with the Power Pro version. Let me know if this is the version you have and I will outline the procedure. If you have another version, I will have to look into how to do it a different way.

Yep, MultiSim 10 Power Pro Edition. Thanks for your help i really appreciate it. I've been trying to build this guitar pedal and it all revolves around a 3PDT stomp swtich... and removing it is really detrimental to the circuit.

Cool. Now we can proceed. This is through Multisim before it is transfered to Ultiboard.

1. Turn on your spreadsheet view if it is not already on.

2. Find your component in the spreadsheet under the components tab (you can click on it in the schematic and it will be highlighted in the spreadsheet).

3. Scroll over to where it says "footprint" and click on the box and in the pop up window click "select from database"

4. Select your footprint you desire and it will be attached to the component and then should transfer to Ultiboard.

One note about this. It is not permanent and you will have to do this for any new schematics. If you save your current schematic then re-load it later the changes will still be there.

I hope this helps as this is the only way I know of to do this since you can't edit or save virtual components.

I'd also like to add to Lacy's response, if you don't find the footprint you need in the master database, the you can follow her procedure and then just type in ANY name you like for the footprint and then in Ultiboard follow the component wizard to create the footprint you need and make sure you save and name it exactly as you did it Multisim.

Thanks Chris, that is very useful information to know. I believe the technique I outlined in my post is actually something you passed on to me a while back when I had a simular question. I thought I would give you the credit since it the same procedure you shared with me.

Thank you fior your contributions to the forum.
