Pin bugs?

When I select a drill hole other than circle, like rounded rectangle, it appears fine in the editor, but when I view it in 3D or print it, they appear as circles with odd diameters, anyone encountered this problem?
The second thing might not be a bug but a lack of feature, but I'll ask anyway. Is it possible to specifiy that I want a through-hole pin to appear only on one side of the board? I only solder the bottom layer of TH parts, no need for a pad on the top layer, but I can't seem to find such an option.

Hi Joco,

I haven't heard from this behavior before, on my computer everything is working fine. Could you please post an example of a board the produces the described error on your system? Thanks in advance.

Here's a screenshot, should explain everything. Printing is the same as the 3D, pads are always round.

Hi Joco,

I could reproduce this behavior on my PC too.

I forwarded your question to my R&D collegues in order to fix the problem.

I have the same trouble.  I made rectangular drill holes for a DC power jack and when I did a print to review the holes are round.

Has this been addressed by R&D yet?  How long until a fix?

thanks

Ryan,

I just tried Place >> Hole and select a rectangle shape in Ultiboard 10.0.1, it exports correctly on print and on gerber. Do you have a special way of placing that hole you are referring to?... or do you have a sample project we can take a look to? Please include any details on what version you are working with.

My version lists as 10.0.343.  I made a custom part.  In the part's properties menu, under Pad, I selected "Advanced Hole" and checked 'plated'.  In the properties for the advanced hole, in 'hole' tab I selected 'rectangle' with a length of 40 mil and width of 120, drill option 'plated'.

The part is a DC power jack, I have 3 pads - everything seems ok - pads connect to nets fine, my design is done, but my print outs show round holes for this custom part.  I've redone the part a couple times with no success.  I haven't checked a gerber export yet to see if it's alright and just a print bug.

I can make just a rectangular hole in the design and I'm doing that right now to replace my custom part design and placing copper area around the hole, but I have to use vias to connect to internal layers, etc.  The print out shows the rectangular hole this way, but not for the part.

thanks

Ryan,

I tried your procedure (changing the advanced hole properties) and I still get on my Print a nice rectangle, as well as in the gerber exports... however 3D preview shows a circular drill like you said...

I'm more concerned if you are seeing this behaviour on the Print or on the Gerber files ( i will still report the 3D preview though). If you see the behaviour there can you place the part in a project file and attach it here so we can take a look to it?

I checked the gerbers - they are square holes in the gerber files.  In 3D preview and if I just print the layers to paper the holes are round.

I've attached a project file for the part and the gerbers I ran.

Thanks for your help, as long as the gerbers have what's required then I'm good.

Ryan
