Trace on layer not allowed by net settings

Solved!
Go to solution

I can't get Ultiboard 10.1 to let me run traces on the bottom side of the board even after checking the box in the Misc tab of the netlist editor (that was strangely unchecked for the first time anyway). I tried deleting the traces and laying them again, closing the design and starting it up again, closing & opening Ultiboard and I'm getting nowhere. What happened? I've been working with the design suite for almost 4 years and never seen this before. Thanks

Hello,

You should be able to place traces on the copper bottom layer.  The only reason why you would not be able to place a trace is if you are not on a copper layer.

If you could send me your design, I will be able to assist you better.

Thank you very much Sharanya R. I have attached the Ultiboard file as well as the security copy (API_Lunchbox1.ewprj)  in case that provides any more data. I suspect there is an errant setting somewhere, because none of my earlier work has encountered this trouble. Very perplexing... Thanks again Tod

Hi Tod,

It seems like you were unable to route in your copper bottom layer because it was not selected as on eof the Routing Layers in the Spreadsheet View.

You can select it by doing the following;

1. Select the Nets tab in your Spreadsheet View

2. Select all the Rows under the Routing Layers Column

3. Click on of the rows (while all of them are still selected)

4. You should see a window similar to Figure 1 and you can select the routing layers in this window.

Thank you. I actually tried checking all of these boxes. I noted when finished, that, in the net settings tab of the spreadsheet view, all of the nets showed 1111. I thought I had solved it and was about to perform a back annotation. I saved the file. Then I closed the spreadsheet view and noticed that the red circles were still all over the traces I had attempted to put on the bottom side of the board earlier. I opened up the spreadsheet view once more and the settings had all returned to 1000. This was after I went through every single net and changed them all to 1111. If this isn't happeneing on your end, then I have to presume that something is horribly wrong here on my PC.

Hi Tod,

I was able to check off all the boxes, autoplace, and autoroute your design as well.

You do no need to go through each one seperately, if you select all of them you should be able to do it at once.

Wow! I attempted something like that, but I right clicked thinking a left click would defeat the column selection. It appears to be working now. Thank you very much.
