Transient analysis longer than 1ms

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello,

I just have started to use the online free version of multisim live. I was just performing the transient analysis of my circuit and could not find any option to increase the Transient analysis duration. Its default value is 1ms. If I change it from the left side window, it only shows the 1ms simulation and keeps the rest of the window blank. If I select a longer duration and press the "play button" to run the simulation it goes back to 1ms duration. Is the free version only able to simulate till 1ms? Or am I using the wrong control features?

Thanks.

Hi hpislow,

I think you mean the right side, not the left side, window. This is the Configuration pane for the Grapher. The default End time for Transient simulation is 1 ms, you are correct but just coincidentally. End time is not in Grapher's Configuration pane, you mistakenly modified the span of Grapher's horizontal axis.

Is the free version only able to simulate till 1ms?

No. According to a message displayed in Multisim Live, up to 1 × 1029 seconds can be simulated. This large simulation time is available both for Free Subscription and Premium Access. It was not explicitly mentioned, but if you will try to run the simulation close to to this limit, make sure your computer has plenty of memory otherwise waiting forever will be simulated.

Or am I using the wrong control features?

You're right! You're using the wrong control. The left side (should be right side) window that you referred to is the Configuration pane for the Grapher. This is used for setting how the waveforms will be plotted in Grapher window. The time span of Transient simulation can be set in the Configuration pane for Design/Schematic. Click/tap in an empty area of the circuit diagram then click the gear icon, the Configuration pane will be presented like in this image

The Start time and End time defines the duration of the simulation. I'm using a low-end smartphone, it's difficult for me to highlight these items so just find them in the image.

You should have explored Multisim Live's Help first, the guidance that you need can be found in Help >> Simulation.

In the image that you attached, Transient simulation was performed with the default settings but with a modified maximum value for horizontal axis in Grapher. The result is a graph with empty space on the right, having this outcome is discussed at the end of Help >> Simulation >> Grapher >> Transient simulation.
