I turned on auto save but I don't see my file time stamps updating at the save interval. Do they go somewhere else beside my current project directory?
Actually it would be kind of nice if they do, or at least don't overwrite my manual save copies so I can revert back to a manually saved version rather than have it automatically overwritten and then be sorry I lost it.
Thanks.

Hi Ddur,
In Multisim, when you select Options>>Global Preferences>>Save, there are two auto save options, security and auto-backup. The security copy option creates a backup file only when you manually select File>>Save. Navigate to the location where you saved your design file, you will see a file with (security copy); if you ever want to open the last saved file this is the file to open.
When auto-backup is checked, Multisim creates a .12$bak file in the same location as your design file. If you computer crashed you can open this file after reboot.

"When auto-backup is checked, Multisim creates a .12$bak file in the same location as your design file. "
This is what I was looking for. It's nice it doesn't overwrite my manual saves.
My problem now is I don't see any .12$bak file or anything like it anywhere. What am I missing?
Thanks.

Open any design file in Multisim and also open the Windows explore at the same time, you have to wait 5 minutes (default) before the .bak file is created.

Yes I did that. No bak file ever appears.

I noticed that MS does create the backup file when enabled for MS, but UB does not create one even when enabled.
I'm on the just released ver 13.0.0.

The "enable auto save" works differently in Multisim and Ultiboard, I was looking describing Multisim yesterday.
In Ultiboard, when auto save is enabled, your design file will automatically be updated at the specified interval, no backup file is created. If you compare the dialog message under the "save" tab in Multisim and Ultiboard, the messages are different.
The security copy works the same way though.
I don't know why the behavior are different but I will put is a request to make Multisim and Ultiboard behave the same way, personally, I prefer the Multisim way.

I too like the MS method. I do not want my manually saved files overwritten automatically.
Even so, I get no autosaves in UB. I had it set on 1 minute save intervals and overnight my project file time stamp is still from my manual save yesterday.
So I have no idea if UB autosave even works since I can't find any saved file. If it works it's going somewhere unkown to me.

Here are my steps test the autosave:
1. Start a new design
2. Add any object on the design the save the design
3. Add another object and leave Ultiboard running for about a minute
4. Use the Task Manager to end Ultiboard
5. Start Ultiboard again and open the design, you should see the second object even though you didn't save the file

You are right, that is working and overwriting my manual saves and the file time stamps are updating. Yesterday it did not update file time stamps so I don't know what was going on, or if it was really saving.
In any case I can't have my manual saves overwritten when I'm not ready for that so I'll have to disable this.
Thanks.
