footprint not found in Ultiboard

Can someone please tell me how to create a new part and footprint. When I try and create it in Multisim first, I cant because I need a footprint. So I go into Ultiboard first and create a footprint using the wizard and save to corp database. Then I go to Multisim and use the new part wizard but when I get to select footprint dialog, the preview pane says "footprint not found in Ultiboard" even though it is listed in the "Data List" Can someone please outline the steps for me to create a part from scratch. When to go into which program and in what order... Thanks.

It sounds to me like you did everything correctly. I can't understand why your having this problem.

One suggestion that you might try is to delete your component from Multisim. Goto Ultiboard and create the footprint and save it to a database. Got back to Multisim and go through the component wizard and select the footprint at the very beginning of the component creation process.

The way it sounds is that that you created the component first and then the footprint and then tried to edit the component to reflect the new footprint. I don't know if that may be causing the problem or not, but give what I said a shot and see if that helps.

It shouldn't make a difference as to how you assign a footprint to the component. You should be able to do it either way. You may have to try and post your footprint and model file so that we on the foum can try and recreate this.

This is all I can think of right now. I hope maybe my suggestion will help.

Hi,

the procedure you followed is correct. You first need to create the footprint in Ultiboard and save it to either the user or corporate (network) database.

It will not appear automatically in the Multisim database.

To create a new part with this footprint in Multisim, go to Tools>Component Wizard

When it comes to assigning the footprint, follow the instructions after step 4 in the following link:

Please let me know if that worked for you.

Thanks both of you for taking the time to respond and help me with my problem. I followed the link information that was sent. The "Edit Footprint" button in the properties box is greyed out. That was another question that I had on my list of things to research in the help files.... I have never seen an instance where I am able to use the edit footprint button in Multisim.

It looks like someone has imposed global restrictions on the environment. Try to open the Global Restriction options ( password Rodney) and uncheck

the 'disable database editing' toolbar. Let me know if that allows you to modify the footprint.

Thanks,

Kostas,

In whic program? Ultiboard or Multisim? I did not see any checkbox about global restriction or database editing in the OPTIONS>GLOBAL PREFERENCES WINDOW, I also did a help fle search in both Ultiboard and Multisim on "Global Restrictions" and "disable datbase" and found nothing.

Sorry, but youll have to be a lot more specific for me to follow. I usually use Cadence, but am evaluating workbench. I have only had a few days with it so far...

Thanks,

Frank

There is no pasword restrictions that I know of in Version 10. This was in some previous versions (I know it was in Version 2001).

Your last post said you were using the evaluation version. I am not certain, but there may be options that aren't available to you. This may be one of them. The evaluation version is supposed to have the functionality of the Power Pro Edition for a certain time period (I think 30-45 days), but I am not certain of what features are available during this period. I could be wrong about this, but this is what I recall from a previous forum message and that was a while back.

Hi,

It looks like you have an evaluation version of the software. When activated, you should be able to see the global restrictions tab (see picture attached). However, you should be

able to modify the footprints even on evaluation mode. In Multisim, can you please go to Help>About Multisim and let us know which version you use?

Thanks,

Kostas / Lacy,

The HELP>ABOUT shows build 10.0.343. I do not have the tab shown in you pic. It must be omitted on the evaluation version. I only have "Global Preferences, Sheet Preferences, and Customize User Interface" under the Options Toolbar.

Is the greyd out button "EDIT FOOTPRINT" the same as right clicking on a component and then PROPERTIES>VALUE(TAB)>EDITCOMPONENTINDB>CHANGE?

Thanks for your help guys. I think that I can still do a lot with the eval version even with the few limitations. I think that Electronic Workbench blows Allegro AWAY! The only issue I see thus far with us moving to EW from Cadence is the library. Our library (about 65000 parts) is all stored in a Microsoft Access DB and linked to Cadence. Inputting all of this info would take quite a while...

Thanks, Frank

I don't mean to sound like a butthole here but trust me version 10.0.1 Build 343 does not have any circuit or global restrictions in the preference tab. I have the Power Pro Versiion fully registered and licensed and it is not there See the attached screen shot. This may have been in previous versions or in the academic Version but I don't see it here in this version at all.
