loaded from text cd. will not run samples from same cd

I have adopted Delmar text Electronic Devices: Systems & Applications and intended to use the copies of multisim 2001 that we own.  When I discovered that the text includes a limited copy of Multisim textbook edition, that seemed even better; it installed clean, but when I attempted to open any of the included sample files on the CD, it told me that this edition could only open sample files from the install CD: exactly what I was trying to do.  What's going on?  I'm running Vista Home Premium, which will typical for several of my students.

I would suggest that you copy the contents of the CD into your local hard disk, "and" make sure they are not read-only as most of the files of a CD are. So, in other words, open the files on your computer, not from the CD.

Give that a try to see if that is causing the problem, since on the other hand, Multisim 2001 is not designed for Vista, only the latest release Multisim 10.0.1 is the one supported under Windows Vista.
