NIRo, a demonstration platform built by engineers at National Instruments, is a small unmanned ground vehicle that uses off-the-shelf components purchased from a local hobby store. The control system is implemented on a NI Single-RIO embedded platform which includes an integrated FPGA and Real-Time processor. NIRo uses three infrared sensors and two ultra sonic sensors to autonomously avoid obstacles as it navigates its environment.
