| Solution: Microsoft has embedded backwards compatibility into Windows Vista x64 in order to support applications that have not been recompiled to use 64-bit pointers for 64-bit address spaces. WOW64, which stands for Windows On Windows 64 is an emulation layer that encapsulates applications that are designed for 32-bit applications. The application thinks it exists within the virtual memory of a 32-bit computer and sends and receives 32-bit commands, which are then translated by WOW64 before communicating with the system. No additional steps are necessary to take advantage of the WOW64 emulation layer. Install LabVIEW normally.
Drivers for Microsoft Windows x64 must be compiled for 64-bit. No emulation layer is provided for the system address space, which communicates with the kernel and system hardware. 64-bit drivers will be released for all National Instruments hardware once Microsoft Windows Vista x64 has been made available to consumers. |
