Did you mean:

May you please get the "UDATES" tab working properly again 🤬

Since updating from LabVIEW 2020 to 2021 the NIPM (21.3.0) is missing a lot of package updates 20 -> 21 (NI-DMM, NI-RFSG, NI-Switch, NI-FGEN,...) which are actually released. The NIPM does not show the updates  in the "UPDATES" tab but you can find them in the "BROWSE PRODUCT" tab.

Come on, you cannot be serious with those bugs! The NIPM should be sparing not wasting my time. Please, get it fixed.

NI appears keeps the feeds for each major and minor release of products separate, so not push updates to people who are not keeping with the latest.

I agree that this behavior is not intuitive, and I've raised this concern to the development team and our product owner. Some background information is below.

Version numbers are structured as Major.Minor.Patch. Currently, the Updates tab only shows patch updates. Upgrades to newer major and minor versions are not expected to show up in the Updates tab. This is due to how we create new feeds for each major and minor version of a package.

I disagree with this. I would expect to see all available updates of my installed packages. Major, minor, fixes/patches. The way it is now is not intuitive and makes my live as developer harder.

Greetings  skirchdoerfer,

I see your concerns about this. The behavior can be unexpected now because they are working on lots of updates to their software. There can be some issues for now and its pretty normal for this period of the year. I would suggest downgrading the Package  Manager, this may work better.

As a LabVIEW developer, I can understand the Major packages starting a new feed and therefore not showing up in the Updates tab.  We don't want to upgrade to DAQmx 22.0 when we are working with LabVIEW 2017.  But the Minor updates should at least show up there (DAQmx 21.3 still being compatible with LabVIEW 2017).

I agree that the behavior is not intuitive, and it is not the behavior I would have chosen. I feel like we should at least provide a setting, or some other mechanism, to enable folks to opt into (or opt out of) receiving all updates. I raised this concern again at the standup with the development team this morning. We have a feature for improving updates on the backlog, but I can't speak to when it will be prioritized.

I would also like to mention that I don't think downgrading NIPM will affect this behavior. We did not make any changes to NIPM in 21.3 (or any other recent versions) which would have affected how the Updates tab works in this respect.

I think, if you are using LabVIEW 2017 you won't be using the NIPM. The thing is: if you see all updates in the NIPM you will able to decide whether you want/need to update. If you don't see them you'll have to actively search for every single package. But, why not have both? NI, give us the option to configure which updates I want to see in the UPDATE feed.
