Install Software with the Volume License Manager

We recently switched to use the Volume License Manager. I am trying to install Test Stand on my machine, but the installer only gives me the option to install with a serial number or to install as an evaluation. How do I install and point it to the License Manager?

Hey Brian,

When you use Volume License Manager, the serial number becomes irrelevant.  While the installation prompts you to enter the serial number or select the evaluation version, it does not matter which you choose.  You can either enter the serial number with your volume license agreement or select evaluation.  Note that for a VLM server setup, the clients will always be configured as an evaluation (even if you enter a serial number) because they are not licensed until the connect to the server and check out a license.  In order to point the client to the server after installation, you can manually do this by opening NI License Manager (Start>>Programs>>National Instruments) and select Options>>Preferences to configure the server name/port.  Additionally, however, you can automate this process by creating a network installer.  A network installer copies the regular installation and makes a slight modification to automatically point to the server and request to be added to the permission list.  For more information about this, please consult your documentation with VLM (especially if you have 2.1) or check the following website: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/C091422B3A32A2C486256FEF007134F9.

Please give us a call or shoot us an email from ni.com/ask for support as we can best assist you with VLM questions.
