Installing custom step types in TestStand 4.2

Hello everyone.

I'm trying to install my custom step types in TS 4.2.1 under Windows7, but I'm having difficulties. The custom step types were originally written for TS 4.0.0 but have worked flawlessly in my previous installation of Windows XP. The last time I replaced the components-directory at this location:

c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\National Instruments\TestStand 4.2.1\Components

It would seem, however, that my components-directory changes when installed in Windows7. I found the same folder at this location:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\National Instruments\TestStand 4.2.1\Components

When I start TS I get the usual dialogue which enables me to choose the new ini-file with definitions etc. but then TS complains about duplicate functions (in my case some database do). I'm not exactly sure how to handle this. I can provide screenshots if needed.

What is the "official" way of adding custom step types to a TS installation?

Hi,

It seems to be complaining about the CommonResults container being different, have you changed this? Its usually not wise to change this as it affects everything.

Also, have you tried using the Types Difference Tools found here

Please try the following:

Manually open/add the type palette on your machine using type palette document. Resolve the type conflicts by using the already loaded version for the types that are not the ones you modified or care about. Resave your type palette. Use the resaved version with other machines that have teststand 4.2. Since your resaved type palette now has the 4.2 versions of the types you should no longer get conflicts on other 4.2 machines on which you try to install it.

Success, I got it working. Instead of overwriting the existing Components-directory I loaded my custom step types directly from the types palette in TS and added the directory to the list of search directories. TS still tells me that there are duplicate step types, but simply choosing to use the ones from the new file works fine.
