Interfacing Teststand 4.0 with .NET 2008 and measurement Studio 8.1.1 Enterprise

My configuration is as follows:

Windows XP

TestStand 4.0

Measurement Studio 8.1.1 Enterprise Edition

Visual Studio 2008 Visual Basic express

I am trying to run .NET source code in Test Stand, but the button is grayed out.  I Have the software installed that the button says is required, but I am still unable to use the button.  Do I need to re-install Measurement Studio, or is there a way to integrate the 2 packages to recognize each other.  Also, is this due to Measurement Studio’s inability to interface with Visual studio 2008?  I do not have any version of visual studio 2005 on my system.

Hello,

Most likely the reason that the button is greyed out is that TestStand doesn't have the calls to properly open Visual Studio 2008 from within the sequence editor.  TestStand hasn't been officially tested yet with VS 2008 so their compatability is not yet known, but it is a noted problem that the ability you are speaking of doesn't work yet.  You can still debug assemblies from within TestStand using VS 2008 but you will have to manually attach the TestStand process as an external to VS. The two KnowledgeBase articles below describe how to complete this process (they are written for VS2005 but the process should be similar for 2008):

Therefore the problem shouldn't be related to Measurement Studio it seems to lie just with TestStand.  If this feature is very important then I would recommend rolling back to VS 2005 for the time being.

Just to note, this info is a little outdated. Measurement
Studio 8.6 fully supports .NET 2008. In order to step into a program written in
visual studio 2008 from a breakpoint in TestStand you must have a compatible
version of Measurement Studio installed along with your Visual Studio 2008.
Otherwise you should still be able to attach to a process using the
knowledgebase links john provided.
