Is there a way to get the original Model/ModelPlugin files

Solved!
Go to solution

Does somebody know if I can get the original sequence files that comes with TestStand, such as NI_DatabaseLogger.seq, ModelSupport.seq etc.

Long story short; I am working with a companys own software which uses the TestStand API and when building/downloading the program it replaces most of the files for older versions. There aint many people to ask about this, as most of the people that worked on it earlier are gone, and there is bearly any documentation of what have been changed. I would like to have the original files so I can use the diff tool and see what they have and haven't changed. I have been looking around the internet and not found any way to just download those files, and it seems like NI ain't having those for download either. I would rather not re-install TestStand (all 3 versions) and I am not too keen to set up a virtual envoirment to just get less than 20 files. I would be very gratefull if someone knows where I can find the original files, or would be kind enough to share them.

Kind Regards

Jopexa.

Well, I ended up with messaging to the customer service. I will write what their answer to this is, but I am doubtful it will be anything but sending me the files trough mail.

Good luck to other people who will have the same problem as me.

What version of TestStand do you need the sequence files in?

Here are the contents of the Models and ModelPlugins folders from a default installation of TestStand 2020 (located in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand 2020\Components\Models)

You could also run a repair on your installation of TestStand and only select the "TestStand ADE Support" and "TestStand Process Models" options, which will extract the default components out of the installer again onto your computer.

Hi Jorr-El.

Thanks for the asnwer. I could do it for 2019, 2020 and 2021. But for 2012 I can only change LabView it seems like:

jopexa_0-1665679192010.png

I now only need the NI_DatabaseLogger.seq file from 2012 and then I got everything (because the old farts saved the ModelFiles for 2012 for some reason, but not the ModelPlugins ones).

I hope that this solution doesn't break anything, as there are some stuff they had changed. But in worst case I just have to re-install their program. It is trully suprsingly hard to get less than 40 files that are supossed to be changed by users for customization. I now know that if I want to destory a Stand users day I should just delete the Model + ModelPlugins folder for them. NI should really think about adding a way to be able to download stuff that is in the 'components' folder, seems really unnecessary to have to wait for a 5 min repair and a restart for some simple files.

Well, these files will be saved on the cloud for me, with a couple of backups, just in case.

Thanks again for your help,

Kind regards

JOPEXA.

Btw, got asnwer from NI today.

They recommend to either download 'the Software Platform Bundle (previously known as Partner Software)' or to re-install TestStand for that version, so just running the repair, as Jorr-El recommended, is probably the best way to do it. It's still a questionable solution to get just a few files, but it is the best on out there.

Good luck to the rest of Stand Users.
