Optional TestStand Engine Features

Solved!
Go to solution
TestStand 4.2.1 Deployment Tool shows no Optional TestStand Engine Features when I try to set Engine Options. I do have Install TestStand Engine checked. The deployment I create with no optional test stand features appears to be incomplete. I had the optional engine features when I was using 4.1.1.

Hi Skeptical,

Could you be more specific as to what you mean by it appears to be "incomplete"?

I attached a screenshot of what I see in the TestStand Engine Options window.  Do you see something different?

My first clue that the deployment installation was somehow incomplete was that when trying to run a sequence in my UI, I would get an exception that it could not find modelsupport2.dll (or something like that). When I installed the full version of TestStand, it worked.

When I look at the Optional TestStand Engine Features all I get is the hand with the pointing index finger for a cursor and nothing in the box where all the options should be.

For what it is worth, on another machine I do see all the expected TestStand engine featuers in the deployment tool.

Thanks.

Attached is a screenshot of the error I get when I try to open an older (created with 4.1.1) TSD file in the Deployment tool.

Have you tried to do a repair on the TestStand installation?  This can be done from the add/remove programs in Control Panel or by running the installer again.

Yes, I tried doing a repair of the installation. It took forever and it did not help.

Is this a fresh installation of 4.2.1 on a new computer, or is it the same computer you had 4.1.1 on?

If it's the same computer, can you open the 4.1.1 TSD file in 4.1.1 without a problem?

This is very strange behavior and am continuing to look into it on my end.

I figured out the problem through a series of experiments and accidents. The short story is this:

This was not a fresh install. I had 4.1.1 on the machine. While using 4.1.1 I moved the TestStand Cfg directory to a different location. We do this to fit our business needs with regard to configuration control. When I installed 4.2.1 I intended to use all the same files in the Cfg directory so our settings would remain the same. As it turns out, the EngineParts.ini file is not compatible between these 2 versions. When I deleted the EngineParts.ini file everything works fine (so far) and the EngineParts.ini file got regenerated.

That actually is reasonable to me that the EngineParts.ini would be different between versions.

Problem solved.

Wow, I don't think I ever would have asked about that.  Thanks so much for letting us know!

Is this feature "Optional TestStand Engine" and the file EngineParts.ini found in versions PRIOR to 4.2?

thanks
