Problem in deploying Teststand3.0 on a machine that has Teststand2.0 RTE installed.

When I am deploying Teststand3.0 on a machine that has Teststand 2.0 RTE installed , it doesn't install TS3.0. Installer asks to uninstall Teststand2.0. I f I have Teststand 3.0 RTE installed initially, I can install TS2.0RTE by selecting a different location.

I have both TestStand 2.0 and 3.0 installed.

TestStand 2.0 is installed in:
C:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand

And TestStand 3.0 is installed (by default) in:
C:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand 3.0

Yes, you can install both. I was told by NI that they can both exist.

Thank you for the response, but my probelm is deploying the Run Time Engine, not the development environment. Even in case of RTE deployment, if I install TestStand3.0 RTE first, then Teststand 2.0RTE it works fine the way you mentioned( both reside in diffeernt directories). I need to install Teststand 3.0 RTE applications on a machine that has Teststand 2.0 RTE.That is when I am getting in to troubles, with Installer asking me to detele Teststand2.0 RTE before installing Teststand 3.0RTE.

A deployment install will exit if another version of TestStand is installed. We programmed this behavior because installing another TestStand version could potentially break a test system validated under an earlier TestStand version. Since development systems are typically not validated there is no restriction of side-by-side installs with the main installer.

A side-by-side deployment install should theoretically be possible. However, we have not actually tested it. I could look into making an installer template that allows side-by-side installs. However, you should only do side-by-side installs with the understanding that it would be necessary to validate BOTH the new 3.0 and old 2.X systems after the install. If you are interested let me know. I should b

Another field Engineer, Matt Pickard from NI is also working on the same issue. I am interested in getting the solution that allows me for side by side operation of the TS 3.0 RTE and TS 2.0 RTE. It would still help me if I don't need to have TS 2.0 RTE, I mean if the Teststand 2.0 applications can use the Teststand 3.0 RTE that will be ideal. Since I don't want to use time of both of you, I took some time in replying.
