Hi,
I am trying to setup up a test deployment test PC for testing deployments of a TestStand C# system, and I have two questions.
1)
When I go to install TestStand 64bit on this machine I am not 100% certain but I think I should select and install ALL components and that the Base functionality is achieved by the License only? Its tempting to think that only some of the components should be install. This simple question is not even covered in the NI TestStand training courses, maybe it to obvious to most other people.
2)
I have been loaned by my customer a full, time limited based on username, TestStand developer license. This I understand can be used for TestStand installs on three PC as long as not using them at the same time. So I have one install on my development machine. How do I make the second install work on my deployment test machine as only a Base License?
many thanks in advance
Danny

You are correct. It is the same engine, process models, user interfaces, etc... It is the license that dictates what can and can't be done. For example you can only Save a sequence file with a development license. It doesn't make sense to install the sequence editor on a deployment machine but it definitely doesn't hurt anything. I agree that the courses breeze over this. This is from the help: https://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/370052AA-01/tshelp/infotopics/licensing_options/

You are correct in assuming the user based license can be used in that manner. If you have both licenses (development and base) on the same PC then you will always be using the development license if you are logged in as that user. The way NI license manager works is that it starts at the top of the list and goes down the list in NI License Manager. The first license that meets the criteria is the one that it grabs. In order to simply use the base license just remove the dev license.
Hope this helps,

Many thanks for that jigg.
I installed full TestStand , manually edited my license file to remove bits until I got the situation where I only had a green valid on the Base Deployment part in the NI License manager, the rest show a evaluation for the next 7 days. I suspect that was the easy part 🙂
