TestStand Manual in Paper Form

I know that the TestStand Reference Manual has been integrated into the help files as of 2013, but I was wondering if there are any plans to offer a print version of the help files?

I ask this because it has been quite useful in the past to have a paper based version that can be dog-eared, highlighted, written in, and bookmarked.

Hi,

Have you considered taking a TestStand class?

Hi Devon,

I have taken both TestStand courses this past year, and they were quite informative.  I kept the books that were included with the courses, along with the CDs and exercise books, however, they aren't a reference manual like in the past.

The type of book I'm talking about is one that includes all information about TestStand, as opposed to just the information required to teach it.

I guess I don't understand what taking the course has to do with printing the manual.  The course material and the manual are completely different sets of information.

I agree with Seth.  Now that the (what used to be called) TestStand Reference Manual is integrated into the TestStand help it is a lot harder to find the info.  Maybe that was just because I had the old version memorized.

However, I don't understand why you would need a paper copy when we live in a digital age.  That being said, you can print CHM files.  Inside the TestStand Help go to Options>>Print.  You will see different options on exactly what to print.  You can then only print the relevant topics.  I'm sure the folks at Kinkos know how to print it out all nice as well.  Which would probably be a cheaper option than waiting for NI to come out with a paper copy.

Jigg,

Actually, it's not that you had the old version memorized, the help files are actually difficult to navigate: the search is not very functional and each entry doesn't seem to have all the info one needs.

I have been printing small sections of the help files, but wanted to just do it once and have it bound.  I've found many methods online for printing chm files, however the stack of paper gets pretty thick pretty quickly.  I compiled the fundamentals section of the help file, and it ended up being 800+ pages, which is on the high end of what most book binding places can handle.  So adding the rest of the sections would easily push it beyond their capacities.  And it would be without things like an index or a table of contents.

Anywho, thanks for your input.

Hi,

You can refer the earlier reference manual :

http://digital.ni.com/manuals.nsf/websearch/2B14FB1CD4FF25CA862577AE00554FC7

It may not be the latest but most of the sections are still relevant wrt the latest TestStand ( a good reference)

For the latest manuals you can also refer :

C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\TestStand 2013\Doc\Manuals\GettingStartedWithTestStand.pdf
C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\TestStand 2013\Doc\Manuals\TestStandSystemandArchitectureOverviewCard.pdf

Hope this helps.
