Did you mean:

The TestStand Engine cannot be initialized. Path not found.

Solved!

I tried removing all the folders from this area (not sure why uninstalling TestStand does not remove them automatically) and re-installing, but it still makes no difference; I still get the message 'path not found' when launching TestStand 4.01.

are there any more details on the error message? can you attach a screen shot?

The message is a popup with 'sequence editor' at the top, and with a red cross with the message 'Path not found' inside; there is nothing else.

So it doesn't say anything about engine initialization? Then this is a different error than the original one described for this forum thread.

Try deleting all files located in your TestStand user settings directory (local app data). On Windows 7 this is located at:

C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\National Instruments\TestStand 4.0.1

Not sure where it is on Windows XP. If you have trouble finding it, search for the file SeqEdit.xml or layout_current.bin. These are the files which deleting might help.

I deleted all the files from that directory. I could not find any 'layout_current.bin' files at all, but found some 'SeqEdit' files that I deleted. I then re-installed TestStand 4.01 but it still has the same error message 'path not found' when launching it.

Can you run a user Interface successfully?

What directory did you delete files from? There should only have been one seqedit file and there should have been a layout_current.bin file. Also, it shouldn't require reinstalling after deleting these files, just restarting the sequence editor.

I cannot now remember where I deleted the 'seq edit'  files from, but could not find the 'layout_current.bin' file that you mention, where was this file on your system?

c:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\National Instruments\TestStand 4.0.1 on Windows 7/Vista and <User Directory>\Local Settings\Application Data\National Instruments\TestStand 4.0.1 on Windows XP

I have no files in this directory at all; maybe this is the problem?

No, these files are created dynamically the first time you run the sequence editor.

Do you have show hidden files turned on in Window's Explorer? These directories might be hidden. Did you find the directory and it was empty? or you couldn't find the directory?

If it's not the layout_current.bin file then I'm out of ideas. Perhaps you should contact NI support, or re-image the machine.
