Hi Jon:
Thank you for replying. I was out of office last Friday and hence saw your post this morning only.

I followed steps suggested on both the links but I still get the message. However, after clicking OK, I can run my scripts successfully. So, the msg is not a show stopper but it would be nice to not get an error msg. Any other suggestions??

Also, on another XP PC that has LabView 8.2 and Test Stand 3.5.. I get an error msg when closing Test Stand. (print screen is attached). Any comments on this one wud be soo much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Mim,

As noted in the readme file that the error points to: Applications that create and destroy the Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) control may leak GDI memory, making both the application and system unstable. The memory leak occurs when running the application on Windows XP and the Handwriting feature (version 1.0.1038 of the Skchui.dll file) is enabled for a Microsoft Office product that is installed on the computer. For TestStand, the Sequence Editor creates new instances of the IE control for each new execution document, and each ReportView Operator Interface control creates a new instance of the IE control. To prevent this GDI memory leak, you must uninstall the Handwriting feature of Microsoft Office and for any other product that uses this shared feature.

Refer to the following Microsoft KnowledgeBase article for more information: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;896429

The first link I sent you should have resolved the problem so I'm not sure why you're still seeing the error. You could try to repair the TestStand installation and/or do an uninstall/reinstall of it as well.

I still get this same error message on one of my benches. I have followed the instructions in this thread without any luck. I have also repaired the TestStand install ation and even uninstalled and reinstalled. Any thoughts on the possible reasons?

This error occurs when the TestStand CVI adapter fails to connect to the TestStand AutoMgr COM server.  Most likely there is a problem with the DCOM permissions associated with this server. Because the server is an executable it requires that the launching user has Launch, Activation and Access permissions. You grant permissions for the server using the Component Services administrative tool (dcomcnfg).  Check the Security tab of the Properties dialog for the NI TestStand AutoMgr server and verify that you have Local Launch, Local Activation and Local Access permissions. If the Use Default radio button is checked, then you'll need to verify that the default permissions for the computer are set appropriately. Finally, even if permissions are granted specifically by the server settings, you still need to verify that the computer doesn't set limits on applications that set their own permissions. You can edit the computer-wide defaults and limits on the COM Security page of the Properties dialog of My Computer in the Component Services tool.

To confirm that the problem is permission-related, I've attached a small program that you can use to get the error message when connection to AutoMgr fails. If the error message is "Access Denied", then it's a permission problem.

Hi Kph:

I updated the setup with TestStand 4.0 and LabView 8.5 and havent seen this error since then.

However, I am having other issues - LabView calls from TestStand crash very frequently.. however that is being discussed in a different thread.

Good Luck! Hope u r able to resolve the problem.

I was having this problem on two benches but after I upgraded to TS 4.0 it went away on one of those benches. I have TS 4.5 and LV 8.6 on all benches and only one has the problem. I tend to forget about it until I am actually doing development on that bench.

I had the same error and followed all steps listed here and still have same symptoms.  Tried upgrading from TestStand 4.1.1 to 4.2.1 still no change, uninstalled CVI, then tried to install CVI 2010 which now hangs with installation failure.  Next steps either uninstall all NI apps or reimage HDD.
