Why does Teststand want CD

Hi,

I'm currently running Teststand 4.2 with Labview 2009, with no problems until now.

Whilst executing the test sequence, in the sequence editor, I get the following dialogue boxes:

error 1.JPG

error 2.JPG

The message appears just as an IVI DMM step type is to be executed.

This step has not changed recently.

If I select Cancel, the displaying of the messages occurs 2 - 3 times

again, but eventually stops, and the sequence execution continues

with no problems.

Our NI software is packaged on 5 DVDs, received as Quarterly Updates,

none of which seem to satisfy the messages requirements.

I did try Repairing the Teststand installation via Windows

Control Panel\Add & Remove Software. This appeared to work for about

a week.

My questions are:

-what has caused the messages to occur ?

-what file(s) are being requested ?

thanks

Gary.

Hi again,

I've found that by creating an entirely new sequence file/main sub sequence, then adding just a single IVI DMM

or Switch step, then selecting Edit the step, the error messages appear.

If I persist in cancelling the error messages 2-3 times, the IVI edit panel eventually appears, allowing me to continue

as though normal.

Any ideas on how to rectify what appears to be a problem with my IVI setup will be much appreciated.

I checked MAX and there appears to be nothing abnormal.

My IVI Compliance Package = version 4.0.

thanks,

Gary.

Hi Gary,

This has been caused by a particular order of installation of NI software.

The exact order of installation that results in this error has not been pinpointed as of yet.

To fix this, simply copy the dll titled msxml4.dll from C:\WINDOWS\system32 to the following directory:

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.MSXML2_6bd6b9abf345378f_4.20.9818.0_x-ww_8ff50c5d

In addition, copy the dll titled msxml4r.dll from C:\WINDOWS\system32 to the following directory:

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.MSXML2R_6bd6b9abf345378f_4.1.0.0_x-ww_29c3ad6a

NOTE: Do not delete the dlls from your system32 folder. Just copy and paste them in the new directories. If they already exist then override them.

Hi Mark,

I've just tried your suggestion, unfortunately it did not resolve the problem.

The error messages still appeared plus Teststand froze whilst editing the

IVI DMM/Switch steps.

I did create a Windows restore point prior to the changes, but this hasn't helped

in returning my system to normal, i.e.. Teststand freezing as above.

I'll wait a few days more, in case there are any more suggestions coming forward

before attempting a Teststand re-install.

thanks,

Gary.

Gary -

What operating system is installed on your computer? Are you logged in as an administrator when you launch TestStand and receive this message?

You mentioned that you are using TestStand 4.2 and LabVIEW 2009. Did you recently install a newer version of drivers on this machine? I have heard of this issue happening before, but, when it's a problem with the TestStand installation, it usually occurs when launching the Sequence Editor, Version Slector, or when attempting to make a version of TestStand active.

The first thing I'd like you to try is to log into the machine with a different user name. Launch TestStand, drop an IVI step down, and attempt to configure it. Do you still receive the dialog in this case?

Since you seem to be getting this behavior with regards to the IVI step types, you may want to consider possibilities other than the TestStand installation. The TestStand IVI step types place calls to an ActiveX server. The step types use the NI Session Manager and IVI Compliance Package.

If logging in as a different user doesn't resolve the problem, you may want to try repairing the NI Session Manager to see if this resolves the problem. If it does not, I would then try repairing the IVI Compliance Package. If that still does not resolve the problem, I would finally repair the NI-DMM driver.

Hope this helps. If following my suggestions resolves the issue, please let me know which of these steps corrected the behavior. Thanks.

Manooch_H,

The PC is running Win XP Pro SP3, and I run as Administrator.

We received our Quarterly update package yesterday (NI Developer Suite, 2010 DS1 Edition), which I installed.

The problem has been resolved, there no more requests for a Teststand CD appearing.

If the problem returns I will try your suggestions, i.e. be more selective in reloading software modules as opposed to doing a complete re-install of the Developer Suite.

thank you,

Gary.
