What challenge/problem are you trying to solve through your application:

There are many problem identified while attaining desired speed and interfacing motor for online monitoring. The following sections are discussed about problems identification and theirs solutions.

Problem encountered

  • Control of PMBLDC Motor Speed for optimal response
  • Interface PMBLDC motor for virtual monitoring
  • To acquire data from the PMBLDC motor.

How does your application solves the above mentioned challenge/problem:

  • Use Fuzzy based self tuned PID as a controller
  • Implementation of DAQ system to interface with the control board
  • Use DAQ system to acquire & generate signal along with the DC   motor.

Description of Project:

DC motor is designed to run on a DC electric power which is used electrical energy and produce mechanical energy. There are two types of DC motor which is brushed and brushless DC motor. Brushless DC motor is chosen in this project because the brushless dc motor is actually a permanent magnet ac motor whose torque-current characteristics mimic the dc motor. Instead of commutating the armature current using brushes, electronic commutation is used. This eliminates the problems associated with the brush and the commutator arrangement. Having the armature on the stator makes it easy to conduct heat away from the windings. In such motors, current and torque, voltage and rpm are linearly related.

Fuzzy Based Self tuned PID Controller is chosen as a controller for this project because it consists of several advantages compared to the other conventional controller. The advantages of Fuzzy System are such as simplicity of control through soft computing technique and the possibility to design without knowing the exact mathematical model of the process. It is suitable for applications such as the speed control of DC motor which has nonlinearities and sudden steady state error.

The structure of Speed control consists of the following 3 major components which the first one is Fuzzy-PID with self tuning technique that used to provide necessary action to achieve optimal response. The second one is fuzzy control or rule base which provides the system with the necessary decision making logic based on the rule base that determine the control policy with updation of Three Mode Controller (P+I+D) parameters to provide analog output voltage to the driver circuit for controlling speed of Brushless motor. The application of fuzzy based PID controller allows tuning of Parameters by controller itself automatically.

The third Data Acquisition (DAQ) which combines the action that acquiring signal from speed sensor and generate analog signal to BLDC motor for sending voltage. These above tasks are implemented in the platform of LabVIEW which has the feature of Data flow programming. LabVIEW will support not only for the simulation but, hardware prototype can  also be implemented in the same platform better than other text based programming techniques like C Programming, Embedded, DSP based  programming.
