What challenge/problem are you trying to solve through your application:

In the present world, the prime requirement of any system is electricity. Because of this,

the overuse of the electricity is increasing day by day and the main problem is the wastage of

electricity by the careless nature of the human being. So our prime concern is to reduce the

wastage of electricity by using it in a responsible way.Also we have designed security and Smart Electricity

Billing System in the same project.

How does your application solves the above mentioned challenge/problem:

We designed a system based on NI LabVIEW using NI Report Generation Toolkit such that when a person\

enters the room, all frequenty used electrical equipments are turned ON. And a detailed report for

Electricity charges, No. of Units Consumed, No of hours the equipments are turn ON, etc. data is exported & well organised

into Excel Worksheet at user defined location in the PC.

Also we have encapsulated an INTRUDER Alarm System with the same hardware setup to moniter the room 24/7.

Description of Project:


We observed many times that almost every person forgets to turn OFF the lights and fans, especially at a public place like College, Office, Workshop or Factory.

One of the biggest problems in today's world is ever increasing CRAVE for Energy Consumption and at the same time every day, lots of Units of Electrical Energy is

getting wasted. Hence by using PIR sensors, we detect human presence in a particular room and labview turns ON frequently used equipments like Fans, AC, Lights, etc.

Now if the person needs to turn OFF one of the electrical appliances, manual switches are kept inside the room such that they can be turned off and Labview will get notified

about the status of the Fan or AC turned OFF and this change will also be reflected into the Smart Electrical Billing System inside Labview.

We all pay various electricity charges but we never be able to understand individual consumption of any room or a portion of our home. Thus our Project provides

facility to moniter and decrease the electricity consumption rates by accuately monitoring No. of Units of electricity used and the user can be able to compare the

consumpton rates with previous rates as we maintain the records into an Excel Worksheet for entire Year. Also if this excel sheet is uploaded on the Internet,

user can monitor Energy Consumption rates online from anywhere in the world.

As we have used PIR sensors in our project for detecting human presence, we also extended our project for including an INTRUDER Alarm System.

In the SECURED MODE, as in our Labview GUI, if any intruder enters the room, LabVIEW turns ON Lights and buzzes ON the Alarm until the user turns OFF the Alarm

from LABVIEW GUI or the intruder leaves the room.

Thus we have successfully included three applications on our project using same hardware setup i.e.

1. AUTOMATIC AMBIENCE CONTROL

2. INTRUDER ALARM SYSTEM

3. SMART ELECTRICAL BILLING SYSTEM

In implementing Billing System, in LABVIEW we applied every electrical charges used in real in our area and the Labview generated charges and real PGVCL charges are matched perfectly.

Thus our project also serves as a chaep, realible, smart Billing Alternative to current Electrical Billing Systems.
