Project Information

Project Title: Public Transport Management System

Hardware & Software Used: RFID reader ( serial com connection to LabVIEW), RFID tags, LabVIEW

What challenge/problem are you trying to solve through your application: Reduce the number of private means of transport and encourage people to use Public Transport as their basic means of Transport.

How does your application solves the above mentioned challenge/problem: The project is an effort to solve 2 major problems associated with public transport like Over-crowdedness and non-reliant bus timings. This projects mainly deals dynamically diverting buses to various routes based on the demand. Timers are maintained at each Bus Stop regarding the timings that the bus is expected to maintain. The whole process is monitored from the Bus Stop where LabVIEW is used as monitoring software.

Description of Project:

The public transport management system, being designed is to encourage the use of public transport by helping commuters to overcome these problems with the help of an computerized electronic system. The system being designed is an effort to maintain time frequencies between public transport vehicles throughout the day and avoid over crowdedness by diverting buses from a central control station where a real time database would be maintained about the number of passengers waiting for a particular bus, at various bus stops throughout the city. This would be achieved with the help of hardware like RFID tags and RFID readers present at each bus stop to collect a real time data of the number of passengers waiting for a particular bus. To maintain bus frequencies, the electronic device installed in every public vehicle would indicate the driver about the time gap to be maintained between consecutive services. The database of the system would be maintained in the control room through LabVIEW.
