Project Information
Project Title: Gecko-Bot- A wall climbing robot
Hardware & Software Used: Lab View
What challenge/problem are you trying to solve through your application:
Safety is of at most importance in any automated system. The unavailability of land has given rise to many multi storied buildings. With these,
different problems like maintenance and cleaning arises too. Currently, people are employed to do this job which poses threat to their live. Hence,
considering the above problem we have come up with the project of an autonomous robot "GECKOBOT" which replaces humans in cleaning
applications
How does your application solves the above mentioned challenge/problem:
The idea that we have come up with helps in reducing the above mentioned problem effectively. We have developed wall climbing robot using suction cup technology
that has cleaning detachable attachments. This helps in cleaning high multistoreyed glass paneled buildings.
Description of Project:
The robot is semi-autonomously controlled, which is capable of climbing any type of wall using suction technology. At the far side of the arm there are suction cups. These suction cups are stuck to the wall using
air pump. The robot is completely controlled with the help of a remote. The remote is present with the user on the ground. The wireless remote communicates with the robot using RF technology. The robot has
a controller which decodes the information received from the remote. The controller ARDUINO UNO R3 is used to power the motors for the movement of the chassis to stick to the wall based on the input received from the remote. The robot has on-board battery that is used to power all the components. It has a detachable cleaning attachment at the tail-end of it. Separate cleaning attachment can be put on the robot for cleaning purpose. The detachable attachments on the robot can also be used for surveillance and structural maintenance.
NOTE: The suction technology that we used was not able to provide enough pressure required to attach to the wall. Hence, we are now working on electroadhesion technology for the same idea.
