5442 802.11

Does anyone know please if the PXIe-5442 can be used to generate 3G and/or 802.11 signals?

Hi Joe,

The PXIe-5442 Module supports carrier frequencies up to 43MHz with 355 nHz frequency resolution as shown in this datasheet, whilst supporting data rates of up to 540MB/s.

3G
3G carrier frequencies in Europe mostly operate around the  2100 MHz band for GSM, and for UMTS operates around 2600MHz to 800MHz, which isn't supported by the 5442. Data rates of this scheme are around 200kbit/s.

802.11

These signals used for Wireless communication are in the 2.4, 3.6 and 5 GHz range so you'll require a device that can produce frequencies in this region, so the 5442 is not a suitable module in this instance either.

Check out the NI-RF section to read more about Radio Frequency solutions provided by National Instruments as we have plenty of products which do fit your specifications, for example such as this range of devices.

I'd really reccommend calling up your local NI office to have a talk about your requirements because they'll be able to find the solution which fits your application and budget, alongside being able to provide product demos to you and even co-ordinate training if required.
