Hello,

 

I am a little new to deciding upon the hardware requirement for a very low current application.

Basically, I need to acquire current from a UUT in the range of 10 uA to 100 mA.

From the datasheet of available hardware, how can I make sure that a particular card would work for me. They never clearly mention this.

Example:

I am looking at NI-9227 C series module. it says the following:

50 kS/s/ch, 5 Arms, 24-Bit, 4-Channel C Series Current Input Module 

 

So, whats the resolution for this card? Can I measure 10 uA DC current?

What type is your UUT and operating voltage?

 

An ideal choice to monitor power is powering up the UUT using an SMU and monitoring the current.

 

 

The offset and gain errors are at least 14mA (0.05% of 14 A-pk * 2)

Thanks Santosh for the insights!

 

Even I was leaning towards SMU.

But do we have SMU which works with cRIO?

 

My UUT's operating voltage is 3.3V and current req. varies from 10 uA to 20 mA, depending on sleep mode and communication modes of operation.

 

Can you suggest any SMU from NI which would work for us?

So, NI's SMUs are not c-series compatible; they are usually PXI-based.

 

Why does the power supply be compatible with cRIO?

This is very helpful.

I was hoping for a cRIO based SMU or similar as the ones which are PXI based are way too expensive.

We are trying to roll it out to production floor and are looking for a more economical option.

 

Any other SMU options which you can suggest?

What kind of production test are you doing? is it a bed of nails test on a PCBA?

Hi Santosh,

 

Its not bed of nails.

We are testing PCBAs in batches.

Power is a terminal and hence can be supplied via SMU.

So, in this regards do we have a cheaper option from NI other than PXI?

If you switch to TestScale, you can get the TS-15200 module.
