Difficulty Recognizing Pickering PXI Switch in MAX

Hello --

I am have a PXI Pickering 40-540-021 Matrix card.  Ultimately I want to define routes for this card in NI Switch Executive, but so far I haven't been able to recognize the card in MAX.  A little more info....

  • MAX 4.5
  • VISA 4.4.1
  • I am using an NI-PXI-1033 connected to my laptop via MXI.

I've installed the VISA and IVI drivers for the card from PIckering, and it shows up fine under the Windows Device Manager.  But when I expand the PXI System node in MAX (under Device and Interfaces), the slot housing the Pickering card shows up as being empty.  I have some National Instruments PXI devices in other slots, and they DO show up correctly in the PXI System in MAX.

My questions:

#1)  Am I correct that the card needs to show up here in MAX before I can set up an IVI driver session for it?

#2)  If the card does need to appear here before I can continue, what can I do to see it there?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Bryan

Bryan,

In MAX, try going to Tools»NI-VISA»VISA Options, then go to General Settings under My System.  Choose the option under PXI/PCI and Firewire Interfaces to Show all devices accessible to VISA

Next, follow the instructions in the DevZone tutorial, Using Measurement & Automation Explorer 3.0 to Configure Your IVI System.  This tutorial is targeted at MAX 3.0, not 4.5, but the process is similar.

Regards,
