Hi All,
Our customer needs to be able to load software on a PXI-8106 without using MAX and any of the LabView RT development software (I will be providing a Real Time System Replication application for them to use to transfer an image of the system) on brand new and existing hard drives (which will require formatting). They will obviously need to install the LabView RT to clean hard disk drives but this can't be done using the System Replication Toolkit.
As I don't have a completely clean hard drive, I am trying the following out on a hard drive that was configured by National Instruments. I have formatted the disk using MAX (but I believe this still leaves the LabView RT Bootloader on?). Ideally I want to make the disk completely clean.
In post 9 of this link: http://forums.ni.com/t5/Real-Time-and-Control/LabVIEW-Real-Time-Application-Deployment/m-p/753651/me...it recommends creating a Format Hard Drive Disk or PC Utility USB Drive in MAX. I cannot create the Format Hard Drive Disk as it requires a floppy disk that neither my development PC or the target system has. I can create the PC Utility USB Drive but for some reason the target system cannot boot from this drive. I have altered the BIOS settings so that "USB KEY:" and "USB HDD" are the only boot devices. I have altered Boot Configuration in the BIOS with the following results:
1) Boot Configuration = LabView RT
After initial startup screen, "Transferring control to user program. System state: Unconfigured" - I believe a system state of Unconfigured means the LabView RT bootloader is running.
2) Boot Configuration = LabView RT Safe Mode
After initial startup screen, "Transferring control to user program. System state: Unconfigured"
3) Boot Configuration = Windows/Other OS
After initial startup screen, "Operating System not found"
So essentially my questions are:
1) How do I fully format the hard disk so it doesn't have the LabVIEW RT bootloader on?
2) How do I boot the PXI 8106 from a USB drive?
Thanks
Martin

Hi Martin
A potential reason why the USB is not being detected. If you create a USB boot disk using Measurement and automation explorer it is for PC to PC not PC to PXI. To create a boot stick for RT you need to use a different program to create to boot stick. I have placed a link to a knowledge base document that covers where to get this program and how to use it.
