GPS AND IEEE 1588

Greetings to everybody, I am new here, so please excuse if the question have been posted many times earlier. I tried to search, but couldn't find anything useful in short, so I choosed to ask here. I am using a PXI 6682H board with GPS and IEEE 1588 support (but should apply to the PCI version, too). I am using NI-Sync version 3.2.2. I would like to synchronize the PXI-6682 board to a GPS and output its internal PPS via PTPv2 protocol (IEEE 1588-2008) on the net. Would it be simpler to do it in CVI or LabView? Is there any reference design/example on how to do such a simple task? Or at least a skeleton? I couldn't find any example for IEEE 1588 in CVI and found only one in LabView but I don't know how to edit it.. Never used LabView before. I just need a few advices on how to start programming the board. Many thanks and best regards.

Ok. I could manage to do something by calling VIs "Set Time Reference" and then "Start 1588 and Wait for Quality". I'll dig a bit more to do the same in CVI. What would you suggest? Many thanks. Giulio

Hey Giulio,

Thank you for posting your needs on this forum. You are looking for a working system/architecture though, so it's difficult to clearly point you to a good solution. Anyway I would prefer to start by suggesting a couple of good articles/example I wish might help you. If you got this links yet, keep me updated and I will provide for additional information:

GPS Synchronization Architecture for Data Acquisition Devices

GPS Synchronization Architecture for DSA Devices

Return GPS Time Using NI-Sync and LabWindows/CVI

GPS Synchronization of DAQ Devices

Reference Design for Synchronizing DSA Devices using GPS

Let me know if you are interested in one of the previous.

Have a good day!

Best regards

Ciao Matteo. Many thanks for the links. I had already looked at some of them (but did not specified it earlier.., sorry) I will use some time to go through them and follow the learning curve. Anyway I was able to do everything I needed at first with the examples provided with LabView. I'll maybe try to replicate in CVI, just because I am more familiar with plain code than with block diagram.. But there is no hurry. Thanks for the info. Best regards Giulio
